LATEST TITLES

1: Volume 7 of A History of the British Steam Tram, which includes a complete reprint of Some Remarks on Working Street Tramway Lines by Steam Power with Description of Various Engines, by Leonard J. Todd, May 1874, 18pp of text and 9pp of hand-coloured illustrations, for the original of which I paid a huge sum!   Sections include: Steam tramways, by J.Hall; Arbitration; British Electric Traction Co; Acts of Parliament; Birmingham’s Public Works Dept and their Tramways; Board of Trade Returns; Cruelty to Horses; Experimentals; Foreign Tramways; Locomotive Manufacturers; Mr. Foot’s new Car Works at Preston; Rolling Stock fittings; Patents; Tangled webs (includes Carruthers Wain saga and O’Hagan’s exploits); Permanent Way; Tickets and Timetables; Statistics; Traction in Transition (which includes much on Birmingham); and Select Committee minutes of evidence (which I have found to be one of the most fascinating of all parts of the history);  I intended to contain the 1008 pages within one book, but dummies  proved that such would be too unwieldy and make it prone to distortion, so it has been divided into two parts, £95.  Please note that because of the considerable weight postage and packing will be extra, but limited to 10% of the cover price.  So the post and packing free price for new books has had to be raised to £100.

2: Monorails of the World – a History of Passenger Monorails, by David Voice, A4, softback, all colour, 96pp, already this has generated a good deal of interest, £25

Since Network Rail reneged on their promise to sell me Brora railway station  I have now signed up for the use of a unit at the old Strathpeffer railway station, and intend to open between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm Tuesdays to Saturdays from April to October, and maybe one day a week in the other months, to sell not just transport books but also general titles. So at long last I will have my own shop window!....

New customers: please note that I always try and note serious defects, but not blemishes like inscriptions, odd handwritten notes, slight creasing/grubbiness/tears, dust spots, or rusty staples. Inevitably dustwrappers (d/w) are often worn at the edges. Also folded maps often have small tears at the folds, but again, I will note any more serious tears.  Postage is extra at cost, and there is no packing charge for second-hand material.   This list only represents a fraction of my stocks - please enquire about other titles.

Measurements I give for posters, plans, photographs etc. are approximate.

Abbreviations: dw = dustwrapper, pp = pages, pb or sb = paperback, hb = hardback, inc = includes.

Finally: If anyone is considering disposing of some or all of their collections, then distance is no object – I have an agent, John Wiltshire, tel: 01295 816963, in the south, near Banbury, who can travel to calls in England, while I can cover Scotland.

THIS LIST ENCOMPASSES Nos 1 to 1036. Please note that Internet Explorer errors and does not display the thousand’s integer. Mozilla Firefox displays the list numbers correctly.
